This time, a Scania G410 came to our truck workshop in 97618 Niederlauer. The driver reported difficulties while trying to shift his gears and unusually strong vibrations during operation, so the first thing we did was to take a look at the truck's clutch.
The cause was something you don't see every day: There was a crack in the pressure plate suspension. As consequential damage, the springs themselves also broke in three places, causing them to become loose. This made the shifting process more difficult during gear changes and explained the strong shaking during the ride. It is difficult to say exactly how this damage could have occurred, it may simply have been a production error on the part of the manufacturer or the material from its supplier was not sufficiently checked.
We procured a new pressure plate, shift plate and a new pilot bearing, replaced the broken old parts and reinstalled the gearbox in the Scania.
